Johnson, Guterres discuss humanitarian efforts for Ukraine’s areas besieged by Russia

The relevant statement was made by the UK government’s press service, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“They discussed their shared concerns on attacks in areas besieged by Russian forces, such as Mariupol and Kherson, and the need to secure a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian efforts and allow civilians to leave,” the report states.

Johnson made clear the importance of global solidarity with Ukraine, with the UK continuing to work closely with international partners to support Ukraine to defend itself.

A reminder that the Russian armed aggression has caused one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the city of Mariupol. Russian invaders are bombarding unarmed civilians and blocking the delivery of humanitarian aid. About 120,000 civilians are remaining trapped in the city.

The Azov Regiment, Ukrainian marines and motorized riflemen continue to fight against the prevailing Russian forces within the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, defending women and children. The Ukrainian side is making every effort to evacuate its civilians and servicemen.
