Russia repeating soviet policy toward Crimean Tatars 78 years after mass deportation

That’s according to British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons, Ukrinform reports.

She recalled that 78 years ago, Soviet authorities forcibly deported the entire Crimean Tatar population from their homeland in Crimea.

“Today, history is repeating itself as Crimean Tatars are still unable to live peacefully in their ancestral homeland, instead facing continued repression, deportation once again, and destruction of their culture and identity,” the ambassador tweeted.

“We remember the thousands of innocents who lost their lives and suffered greatly due to Soviet actions,” Simmons concluded.

As reported earlier, on May 18, Ukraine honors the memory of victims of mass deportation of Crimean Tatar and promotes the efforts to protect the rights of the Crimean Tatar nation.
