Defense minister Reznikov: Ukraine ready to discuss new security architecture
"To date, at the level of President Volodymyr Zelensky, a concept has already been clearly formed, which was publicly presented as a ‘response within 24 hours’. It is communicated by our partners, primarily the United States, Great Britain, Turkey, Germany, France, and it is not concealed from our other partners that we are ready to sit down at the negotiating table with our partners, discussing a new security architecture," Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov said during the “Building Together” online conference organized by Forbes, answering a question about the future guarantees of Ukraine's security, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The defense minister believes that although Ukraine is not a NATO member de jure, it’s already in NATO de facto.
"If we say that Ukraine is not yet considered by NATO countries as a full-fledged member de jure, because there must be a consensus among the NATO countries, we actually already become a de facto member of the Alliance. Because we are on the eastern flank, we are given NATO equipment, we have already mastered more than 300 NATO standards, etc. The only thing that worries our partners is Article 5, which they would be very much unwilling to apply if Ukraine became a member of the Alliance," Reznikov emphasized.
He believes that today it is necessary to build new alliances with the countries of the Anglo-Saxon sector, as well as with Poland, the Baltic states, within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative, etc.
