Dialogue Group on Accountability for Ukraine created in The Hague – Venediktova
"Forty-five countries participating in the conference in The Hague agreed on the Political Declaration on cooperation to achieve a common result. The Dialogue Group, created at this event, should unite national, European, and international initiatives for documentation and justice for international crimes," Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova posted on Facebook.
As noted, the work of the Group will be led by the Prosecutor General's Office.
"The document also commends the efforts made by Ukrainian prosecutors and law enforcement officers to document and investigate international crimes in cooperation with the world community, as well as to bring to justice those who commit atrocities on our land," Venediktova added.
The Prosecutor General specified that this conference, organized by the Government of the Netherlands, the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, and the European Commission provided an opportunity to discuss concrete steps and future efforts at the highest level.
Venediktova also stated that on the day when the whole world gathered for action to jointly stop the aggressor country by the force of law, the Kremlin made a treacherous attack on the center of Vinnytsia, killing people, including children.
"I showed the world press a photo taken by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine showing a child near a stroller who had fallen victim to the invader. Impunity is no longer possible because unpunished evil is unstoppable. Only account and justice can prevent such tragedies," said the Prosecutor General.
She expressed her belief that ending impunity for major international crimes is a shared responsibility.
"Despite the fact that Ukraine has demonstrated that it is capable of handling the burden of investigations and prosecutions, given the scale and severity of these crimes, justice for the victims can only be achieved in symbiosis with the international community. The times when we could live in terrible denial of reality are long gone," Venediktova summed up, adding that "we can achieve our goals only by demonstrating global responsibility and solidarity."
