Security assistance and European integration: Shmyhal meets with Estonia’s foreign minister
As Ukrinform reports with reference to the Government portal, Shmyhal thanked the Estonian government and people for the great support and assistance they provide to our country in all areas.
"Estonia has transferred arms to Ukraine worth a third of its budget. And in terms of the ratio of the country's GDP to the amount of assistance, Estonia is a leader in supporting our country, and Ukrainians appreciate it greatly," the Prime Minister of Ukraine emphasized.
The Head of the Government of Ukraine also expressed gratitude to the Estonian side for humanitarian aid and support for Ukraine on the path towards European integration, in particular, in the issue of obtaining the EU candidate status.
"It is essential now to establish bilateral intergovernmental work, inter alia in terms of cooperation with the EU and NATO partners, to ensure priority needs allowing us to win the war with Russia. We make every effort for this purpose, and I am sure that Estonia will support that," Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia also discussed the Ukraine Recovery Plan. Minister Reinsalu said that Estonia would help to reconstruct Zhytomyr region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia also noted that the new composition of the Government of Estonia continued its comprehensive support for Ukraine. In particular, a new assistance package will be approved in the near future and will include weapons, ammunition, and training for the Ukrainian military.
According to Reinsalu, Estonia keeps insisting that Russia must be held to account for the aggression at an international tribunal.
On August 2, newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu began his first foreign visit to Ukraine. He visited Zhytomyr region as Estonia will help restore it after the end of the war in Ukraine.
On August 3, Reinsalu held a meeting with Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk, during which the parties discussed a number of topical issues.
