Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida says Japan should continue to support Ukraine and exert pressure on Russia, including by strengthening sanctions.

That’s according to Reuters, Ukrinform reports.

Kishida instructed his cabinet ministers “to continue diplomatic responses, including sanctions, against Russia, while backing Ukraine, by keeping close coordination with the Group of Seven nations,” the report reads.

At the same time, no new sanctions were discussed during PM’s meeting with his Cabinet.

"We will continue to work closely with G7 and international community following the prime minister's instructions and respond appropriately," Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki told reporters.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on June 7, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Japan Serhiy Korsunsky said a new agreement was signed to increase assistance to Ukraine by $500 million.
