Zelensky, Scholz discuss plans to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities
The head of state said this on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.
"Had a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on a wide range of topics. Thanked for the confirmation of the €5 billion macro-financial aid from the EU, stressed the need for a full-fledged IMF program. Discussed plans for further strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities," Zelensky said.
German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit told reporters that Zelensky and Scholz in a phone call discussed a number of issues relating to support for Ukraine, preparations for a Ukraine recovery conference and the situation surrounding the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
"Chancellor Scholz today discussed the military, humanitarian and economic situation in Ukraine and the possibilities of further concrete support, along with the restoration of the state," Hebestreit said.
According to him, the chancellor noted that Germany does not stop supporting Ukraine in military, political, financial and humanitarian terms. In this context, Scholz informed Zelensky about intensive preparations for the Ukraine recovery conference, which is to be held in Berlin on October 25.
Hebestreit noted that regarding the situation at the Zaporizhia NPP, both parties agreed that ensuring the safety and security of the plant is extremely important, and the International Atomic Energy Agency's report and recommended measures "played an important role."
The two leaders also agreed to maintain close contact, Hebestreit added.
