President Zelensky calls on PACE to isolate Russia as much as possible

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insists that the world recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism or a terrorist state, and isolate the aggressor at the diplomatic level as much as possible.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his online speech at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“It is necessary to diplomatically isolate Russia as much as possible, so that the Russian community realizes and pays a high price for this aggression, so that the society begins to put pressure on their military and political leadership,” Zelensky said.

In this context, the President of Ukraine stressed the importance of recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism or a terrorist state.

“Most importantly, the Russian society should understand that, from now on, they are the society of a terrorist state and, from now on, the borders of European countries are not open to them. One cannot support the war but rest in Europe. One cannot say ‘we fight against these values, we have our own values’. But, if they have their ‘own’ values, why would they find pleasure in the countries with different values,” Zelensky emphasized.

A reminder that the International Working Group on Russian Sanctions has developed a document explaining in detail the essence and features of the status of a state sponsor of terrorism.

In April 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared the Russian Federation a terrorist state. In May 2022, the Ukrainian Parliament appealed to the United States Congress in order to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
