IPU Assembly adopts resolution condemning war in Ukraine
The Verkhovna Rada said this in a statement posted on its website, Ukrinform reports.
According to the report, the Ukrainian delegation was headed by Oleksandr Korniienko, first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to a representative of the Ukrainian delegation, MP Lesia Vasylenko, the resolution was supported by the parliamentarians of 119 countries who were present at the assembly. This is already the second consecutive IPU Assembly to condemn Russia's actions. "This is definitely an unprecedented breakthrough for this organization," Vasylenko said.
Another member of the Ukrainian delegation, MP Aliona Shkrum, said that there were no votes for this resolution before the arrival of the Ukrainian delegation, because each country in the union has a different number of votes, which depend on the population. In order for the resolution to be adopted, two-thirds of the votes from countries worldwide were needed.
According to Shkrum, the EU countries were very supportive of the Ukrainian delegation, but had doubts that the resolution would be adopted.
