MFA officially accuses Iran of complicity in Russian aggression against Ukraine
In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine notes that the Russian Federation continues to carry out terrorist acts against the civilian population and critical infrastructure of Ukraine, using Iranian-made combat drones.
Over the past week alone, the Russian Federation has launched more than 100 strikes by Iranian kamikaze drones on residential buildings, power plants, sewage treatment plants, bridges, and playgrounds throughout Ukrainian cities, the Ministry emphasizes. Dozens of people, including children, were killed and injured. A third of Ukraine's energy infrastructure facilities were affected. The buildings of two diplomatic institutions in Kyiv were damaged.
The MFA underlines that arms supplies for waging a war of aggression in Ukraine and killing Ukrainian citizens make Iran complicit in the crime of aggression, war crimes, and terrorist acts carried out by Russia against Ukraine.
"We call on Tehran to immediately stop supplying Russia with any weapons. Otherwise, Iran and its leadership will bear the strictest responsibility, including within the framework of international legal proceedings over Russia's crimes against Ukraine," the Ministry states.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that Minister Kuleba today appealed to the foreign ministers of the EU member states with a request to impose new sanctions on Iran for helping Russia carry out terror against Ukrainians. "The new tough sanctions against Iran become particularly relevant against the background of reports on the Iranian side's intentions to transfer surface-to-surface ballistic missiles for their use in the war against Ukraine," the Ministry emphasizes.
The statement also says that Ukraine will take all possible measures to protect the civilian population, sovereignty and territorial integrity from external aggression within the framework of exercising the inalienable right to self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter.
As reported, infrastructure facilities and a residential building were damaged in a kamikaze drone attack on Kyiv on Monday morning. Four people were killed.
Later, Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the Head of the President's Office, said that Iran was directly responsible for the murders of Ukrainians and that sanctions against it alone were not enough.
