In the conditions of full-scale Russian aggression, the support of Ukraine by the European Union member states continues to grow.

That’s according to Ināra Mūrniece, the Latvian Parliament Speaker, who spoke in an interview with Ukrinform.

"As the head of the parliament, I regularly participate in the meetings of parliament heads of the EU countries. And I had the opportunity to observe how the attitude and position of the EU countries and heads of their parliaments are changing. This support continues to grow. Currently, the advantage is on the side of those who support Ukraine. And even those countries that initially spoke out and acted discreetly are already sending you weapons," Mūrniece said.

She emphasized that this happened precisely thanks to Ukraine and Ukrainians: "This is support for your courage, your love for the Motherland, and the fact that you are now standing guard over our common European values."

At the same time, Mūrniece emphasized the importance of the fact that European society now supports the policy of values. "This creates motivation for governments to support the policy of values as well. Otherwise, there may be a risk that the governments will be tempted to slide back to Realpolitik," said the head of the Latvian parliament.

As reported earlier, with the onset of the Russian invasion, the EU and its members have shown solidarity with Ukraine and started providing the nation with significant political, economic, humanitarian, and military assistance.

For the first time in history, the EU allocated military aid to a country in a state of active hostilities. From the so-called European Peace Fund, which is formed at the expense of the contributions of the EU states, Ukraine received five tranches of financial assistance for the purchase of weapons and military equipment for a total amount of more than EUR 2.6 billion.

At the same time, the high representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell, stated that the EU will provide Ukraine with military assistance for as long as it is necessary.
