Minister Monastyrskyi, U.S. representatives discuss national security threats
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Ukraine Bridget A. Brink also took part in the meeting.
“The parties discussed the current situation in our country, as well as the coordination of further steps related to cooperation and aid in the context of the urgent challenges and the emergence of new threats to Ukraine’s national security and defense due to the escalation of the enemy’s aggressive actions, namely massive air attacks on the country’s critical civil infrastructure,” the ministry noted.
Monastyrskyi outlined the role and functions of the units of the Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry, which are part of the national defense forces, directly involved in military operations, protecting numerous critical infrastructure objects, conducting demining works within the liberated areas and restoring vital activities in the de-occupied settlements.
Monastyrskyi told the U.S. representatives of the scale of contamination of Ukrainian territories with explosive items and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the capacity of demining units, mainly with modern special equipment.
Additionally, Monastyrskyi thanked the U.S. Department of State for $47.6 million provided in demining assistance to Ukraine and the modern special radiological, chemical, biological and nuclear protection equipment handed over to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.
The U.S. representatives assured the Ukrainian side of the unwavering support of the United States for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid Russia’s war of aggression.
