Ukraine wants to hold peace summit on UN platform, without Russia - Kuleba
This was stated by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, who spoke in an interview with the Associated Press, according to Ukrinform.
“The United Nations could be the best venue for holding this summit because this is not about making a favor to a certain country,” he said. “This is really about bringing everyone on board," said Kuleba.
According to him, the Ukrainian side is aiming for the summit to take place at the end of February. Ukraine also hopes that the summit will be held with the participation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. “He has proven himself to be an efficient mediator and an efficient negotiator, and most importantly, as a man of principle and integrity. So we would welcome his active participation," said Kuleba.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the peace formula put forward by Ukraine is aimed including at not allowing Russia to manipulate the issue of peace. “They (Russians) regularly say that they are ready for negotiations, which is not true, because everything they do on the battlefield proves the opposite,” he said.
Asked about whether Ukraine would invite Russia to the summit, he said that Moscow would first need to face prosecution for war crimes at an international court.
“They can only be invited to this step in this way,” Kuleba said.
As reported by Ukrinform, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky initiated the convening of the Peace Formula Global Summit, proposed by Ukraine.
