Zelensky discusses with U.S. senators Reed, King risks of possible escalation in Ukraine
This is stated on the official Telegram channel of the Ukrainian leader, Ukrinform reports.
"We discussed the current situation at the front line and the risks of a possible escalation. The Russian proposal of a ‘ceasefire’ is a manipulation through which the aggressors try to hide their true military plans and intentions," the statement reads.
Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the American people, U.S. President, and Congress for their support of Ukraine.
"We appreciate the assistance to our military. We really feel it. The United States is a leader in this extremely important issue. And this brings our victory closer," the statement reads.
As reported by the press service of the President's Office, the Head of State briefed Jack Reed and Angus King on Ukraine's key needs in weapons and military equipment. He emphasized the need to further increase defense assistance, which will contribute to bringing closer the victory over the Russian aggressor.
In view of Russia's ongoing missile terror against Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure, the president separately addressed the issue of the importance of strengthening Ukrainian missile defenses.
Also, the president of Ukraine particularly noted the outcome of his December visit to Washington, during which the powerful bicameral and bipartisan support for his country was demonstrated in Congress, and highly praised the approval by Congress late last year of the $45 billion aid package to Ukraine.
"It is important that you not only provide us with financial support, but also help Ukraine overcome other serious challenges, such as restoring our energy system," the president noted.
Volodymyr Zelensky highly appreciated the transfer of the Bradley Fighting Vehicles to Ukraine, announced by the White House, as well as the agreements reached with Germany on the supply of another battery of Patriots.
Separately, the head of state emphasized the importance of political support for Ukraine in the implementation of the peace formula, and expressed hope for the U.S. leadership in this process.
As reported by Ukrinform, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz discussed further cooperation to strengthen the Ukrainian army.
