EU commissioners headed by von der Leyen plan to visit Kyiv in Feb - Politico
That's according to a European Commission official, Ukrinform reports, referring to Politico.
The EU is planning to hold consultations with Ukraine at the highest level, in another show of support for the European country facing an unprecedentedly brutal attack by Russia.
The official said the initial plan, proposed by Environment Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevicius, was that around "10 to 15 commissioners" that work on files related to Ukraine ranging from trade to digital policies should meet their counterparts in Kyiv. The goal is to "further deepen the relations" and to show solidarity.
It's a "recognition of the progress Ukraine is making on its path towards Europe," the official said.
Along with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the Commissioners that are working on Ukraine who could make the trip include EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis; Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni; foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell; Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson; Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn; Neighborhood and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi; Janez Lenarcic, in charge of crisis management and humanitarian assistance; Financial Services Commissioner Mairead McGuinness; and Commissioner Sinkevicius.
