Ukraine succeeding in war, set to prevail - Biden
This was stated by U.S. President Joe Biden during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
Biden recalled how a year ago, after Russia’s full-scale invasion, he had a phone call with Zelensky and asked what he, as U.S. President, could do for him and for Ukraine.
"You said to me, and I quote: ‘Gather the leaders of the world. Ask them to support Ukraine.’ (…) And you said that you didn't know when we’d be able to speak again. That dark night, one year ago, the world was literally at the time bracing for the fall of Kyiv (…), perhaps even the end of Ukraine. You know, one year later, Kyiv stands, and Ukraine stands, democracy stands. America stands with you and the world stands with you," Biden emphasized.
“Kyiv has captured a part of my heart, I must say,” he added.
He recalled that he had visited Ukraine six times as vice president – the first time in 2009, three times in 2014, after the Revolution of Dignity, and then again in 2015, to address the Verkhovna Rada. Biden came to Ukraine once again in 2017 before the end of his term as U.S. Vice President.
"So, President Zelensky, you deeply honored me here in Kyiv today with you to meet with you military, your intelligence folks, your diplomatic teams. (…) it’s astounding who stood up – everybody. Everybody – women, young children – just trying to do something, pulling people out of the apartments that are being shelled. Literally, I think these are war crimes. It’s astounding. The whole world sees it," the US President emphasized.
He emphasized that this is the biggest land war in Europe in three quarters of a century. "And you’re succeeding, against all and every expectation except your own. We have every confidence that you’re going to continue to prevail," the U.S. President emphasized.
As reported, on Monday, February 20, the President of the USA arrived on a surprise visit to Ukraine. Biden has already announced that the U.S. is allocating a new package of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $500 million, which will include, among other things, more missiles for HIMARS, Javelin anti-tank missile systems, and other weaponry and munitions.
