Ukraine developing national compensation mechanism - Stefanchuk
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk announced this at the United for Justice international conference in Lviv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The problem that we will have to deal with is the ratio of the international compensation mechanism to the national one, so that there is no doubling of compensation for damage or, on the contrary, there is no possibility of paying compensation to unauthorized people," Stefanchuk said.
According to him, the Verkhovna Rada is doing a lot in this direction. In particular, MPs voted on draft law No. 7198, which legalized the appropriate compensation mechanism for people who lost their homes.
“Compensation by the state is possible under the condition of funding sources, and important changes to the Law of Ukraine ‘On Sanctions’ are important here. I have already spoken about it at the international level, and now we have to transfer to the national level," Stefanchuk said, noting that at the national level, options for compensation should be expanded.
As reported by Ukrinform, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine, together with partners, is working on the creation of an international compensation mechanism for the damage caused by Russia, and it will consist of four components, including an international register of losses.
