Türkiye does not recognize Russia's occupation of Crimea - MFA
That’s according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye.
"The Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which is part of Ukraine, was annexed by the Russian Federation in violation of international law and through an illegal referendum, held on this day (March 16) nine years ago.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the annexation, we renew our assurances regarding the non-recognition of the situation and reaffirm our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
The situation regarding the indigenous people of Crimea, the Crimean Tatars, is always a priority for Türkiye, the statement adds.
"Türkiye will continue to provide support to our brothers, the Crimean Tatars, so that they preserve their identity and live in safety and peace in their homeland in Crimea," diplomats wrote.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, said that some of those who organized and held the sham "referendum" in Crimea in 2014 could have already been released from prison, but now this is what awaits them.
