China to contribute to political solution of "Ukrainian crisis" in its own way - MFA
That’s according to a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Mao Ning, who spoke at a briefing on March 27, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"On the issue of Ukraine, we are in favor of a political settlement of the crisis and promotion of peace negotiations. China maintains contact with all sides and will continue to play a constructive role in its own way, contributing to the de-escalation," the spokesperson said, answering a question of how any peace plan for Ukraine can be implemented if such major powers as the United States and China don't even discuss it.
According to the official, Beijing hopes that "the U.S. will also act responsibly, creating the necessary environment and conditions for peaceful negotiations between the interested parties, and not add fuel to the fire."
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry, while commenting on Russia's decision to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, stated that a nuclear war must never be unleashed, and called on the parties to the Russo-Ukrainian war to focus on the diplomatic settlement of the "Ukrainian crisis."
President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had not yet seen official documents regarding China's so-called "peace plan" and that he expects to see Bejing’s support for the Ukrainian peace formula.
Zelensky also expressed skepticism about China's 12-point proposal, which includes calls for a ceasefire and peace talks between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, noting that "respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity" must come first.
On the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Chinese Foreign Ministry released its "position on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis." The document consists of 12 points.
