Only with Ukraine, Alliance will guarantee real protection for Europe – Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in his video address to the nation, Ukrinform reports.

"A very important decision was made this week in Lithuania - regarding the main expectations from the NATO summit planned in Vilnius. The Lithuanian Seimas recognized the need to invite Ukraine to become a member of NATO - to invite this year, at the summit in Vilnius," said Zelensky.

He emphasized that only together with Ukraine, the Alliance will guarantee real protection for Europe against any encroachment - on the lives of peoples, existing borders and the rules-based international order.

"This decision of the Lithuanian Seimas will have continuation in the coming weeks and months. We are already working on it," Zelensky said.

As reported, the Parliament of Lithuania adopted a resolution for the NATO Summit in Vilnius that includes an official invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance. According to the resolution, submitted by representatives of various political groups in the parliamentary Committees on Foreign Affairs and National Security and Defense, this would be a strategic decision by NATO in pursuit of peace in Ukraine and Europe.
