USA not spend money in Ukraine but invests in democracy – Senate delegation in Kyiv
The relevant statement was made by the delegation members, namely Joseph Manchin, Lisa Murkowski and Mark Kelly, during a briefing in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Senator Manchin noted that the delegation first met with the U.S. military personnel in Poland, and then was informed at a meeting with the President of Ukraine about the coordination of aid and what they can still provide for Ukraine’s victory in the fight against Russia.
According to Senator Kelly, the President of Ukraine and his team briefed the U.S. delegation on the situation on the battlefield and what weapons or systems they need to continue to be successful. In his words, Washington is constantly monitoring what Ukraine needs, and the delegation will provide the U.S. Department of Defense with information from Kyiv.
Senator Murkowski mentioned that the U.S. delegation came to Ukraine to better understand the level of accountability and transparency. In her words, everyone they met openly discussed what the United States had done, what coalition partners had done, where it is now, where it would go, and how it helps the effort.
Senator Manchin emphasized that the U.S. delegation had learnt about the transparency and accountability of the weapons and funds provided by the United States and the IMF, and the delegation members had been very pleased.
According to Manchin, the Ukrainian side makes sure to spend each dollar wisely and with benefit. In his opinion, the United States does not spend money in Ukraine but invests in democracy.
A reminder that, on April 12, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with the bipartisan delegation of the Senate of the United States Congress, including Joseph Manchin, Lisa Murkowski and Mark Kelly.
