Biden discusses with von der Leyen her visit to China and support for Ukraine
The relevant statement was made by the White House, Ukrinform reports.
"The two leaders discussed President von der Leyen’s recent trip to Beijing and their shared commitment to upholding the rules-based international order, human rights, and fair trade practices," the press release said.
It is noted that the parties reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
In addition, Biden and von der Leyen "reiterated the commitment of the United States and the European Union to ensure that Ukraine has the economic and security assistance it needs and to continuing to work closely together to impose costs on the Kremlin for Russia’s aggression."
The leaders also discussed other issues, including joint efforts to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
As Ukrinform previously reported, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron visited China in April to hold meetings at the highest level. In particular, they outlined the position of the European side on ways to stop Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine on the basis of respect for the UN Charter and the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
