Brazilian president responds to invitation to visit Ukraine, decides to send envoy
According to Folha, Celso Amorim, special assistant to the Brazilian president for international affairs, will travel to Ukraine on behalf of the Brazilian leader, the head of the general secretariat of the Brazilian president’s administration, Marcio Macedo, announced.
"The president approved a decision and instructed me to inform that the special assistant for international affairs, the ex-expert of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, who has already been to Russia, will visit Ukraine," Marcio Macedo said.
He made such a statement after a meeting with representatives of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, where the Brazilian president arrived yesterday on a visit.
As Ukrinform reported, the day before, Brazilian President Lula da Silva accused the United States of "encouraging war in Ukraine." The White House responded by saying that Brazil was thus repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda. After that, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Brazil Mauro Vieira stated at a press conference that he did not agree with Washington's position.
At the same time, Ukraine’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs said that the Brazilian president's approach “does not correspond to the real state of affairs" and invited him to visit Ukraine to understand the true essence of Russian aggression.
