PM Shmyhal expects Ukraine to be ready for accession to the EU in two years
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We are setting ambitious goals: to be ready for accession to the EU in two years. This task is challenging and complex. Currently, we are studying 29,000 legal regulations of the EU, which should become part of our legislation. This year we expect a political decision from the EU to start negotiations on accession,” Shmyhal noted.
At the same time, according to Shmyhal, Ukraine continues to integrate into the EU’s domestic market. The Ukrainian side has already reached an agreement with the EU to extend the transport and economic ‘visa free regime’ for another year.
A reminder that, at a plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament voted by a majority in the first reading to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine for another year, starting June 6, 2023.
