Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejcinovic Buric have discussed in Reykjavik further steps that need to be taken for Ukraine's victory.

According to Ukrinform, the head of government reported this on Telegram.

"I thanked Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejcinovic Buric for the important decisions that were adopted in Reykjavík during the Council of Europe summit. In particular, for the creation of an international register of damages to Ukraine caused by Russian aggression. We appreciate the principled position of the Council of Europe in opposing the Russian Federation. We discussed further steps that need to be taken for Ukraine's victory," Shmyhal said.

According to Shmyhal, Pejcinovic Buric assured him that the Council of Europe would continue to show solidarity with Ukraine and make efforts to hold Russia accountable.

"We count on the Council of Europe as an important platform for communication between European states to bring a just peace closer and to punish the aggressor," he said.

Shmyhal earlier met with U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield. He thanked the United States for providing air defense systems to protect the Ukrainian skies and expressed hope for further close cooperation to strengthen security and Ukraine's future victory.

Shmyhal, together with a Ukrainian government delegation, is participating in the Council of Europe Summit, which began in Reykjavík on May 16. A political declaration on the creation of a register of damages caused by Russia's aggression against Ukraine was signed there. More than 40 countries and the EU have already joined the document. Three more countries expressed their willingness to sign the declaration.
