U.S. Deputy Secretary Richard Verma meets with ministers, diplomats in Ukraine
In his video address, Verma expressed confidence that, together with its allies and partners, Washington will continue providing the necessary assistance for Ukraine to defend its sovereignty, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
On Twitter, Verma noted that the purpose of his visit was “to see how U.S. assistance is helping Ukraine defend against Russia’s aggression.”
“We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes,” Verma stressed.
As part of his visit, Verma met with the team of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv and held a meeting with Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko.
“We had a productive conversation about continued U.S. assistance to Ukraine as it defends its sovereign territory,” Verma wrote.
In addition, Verma met with Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov. The parties discussed Ukraine’s future recovery and U.S. investment in Ukraine’s energy sector.
Standing at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery in Kyiv, the U.S. top diplomat emphasized that Ukraine will be receiving continued U.S. security, economic and humanitarian assistance.
“And it also means continued work with our allies and partners to give Ukraine the tools it needs to defend its sovereignty and fight for the independent, democratic, and prosperous future is people have sought for so long,” Verma concluded.
A reminder that Richard Verma is on his first foreign visit as United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources. In addition to Ukraine, he has already visited Poland. On Thursday, Verma is also paying a visit to Moldova.
