As part of the working visit to Japan’s Hiroshima to attend the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in person, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.

The relevant statement was made by the Office of the President of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The two leaders discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda, paying special attention to further cooperation in the security and defense sector.

“I highly appreciate the fact that friendly Canada is one of the leaders in supporting Ukraine in countering Russian aggression. But now it is a critical moment for us and for the whole world, and Ukraine needs enhanced assistance,” President Zelensky said.

The Head of State briefed the Prime Minister of Canada on the situation at the front and shared the assessment of its possible development.

Zelensky praised the assistance provided by Canada for demining the territories liberated from Russian invaders.

“I would like to thank you for the practical assistance in demining and for the prompt processing of our requests by your government and Canadian manufacturers,” the President of Ukraine noted.

The parties also discussed the training of Ukrainian junior officers as part of the UNIFIER Canadian training mission.

Canada’s consistent strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia was highly praised.

In addition, President Zelensky emphasized the importance of implementing all points of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.

The Head of State also focused on the issue of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration. He noted that at the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July, concrete decisions on Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance should be made and clear signals should be given that the country will become a member of NATO.
