Canada joins 'fighter jet coalition' for Ukraine — senior Ukrainian official
Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said this in a post on Facebook, reporting on the agreements reached during the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
"A number of important agreements for Ukraine were reached during bilateral negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Among the main ones is that Canada officially joins a coalition of combat aircraft, particularly in terms of training Ukrainian pilots and aircraft maintenance", Zhovkva said.
He recalled that the Canadian prime minister had announced about $400 million as an additional package of security assistance for Ukraine, which will include artillery shells and missiles. In addition, Canada strengthens sanctions pressure on the aggressor and introduces new sanctions against individuals and legal entities.
Zhovkva noted that following the meeting, the two countries' leaders had signed a joint declaration that outlines the priority areas of cooperation and reaffirms Canada's support in fundamentally important issues for Ukraine. The declaration outlines the range of assistance, including political, military, financial and humanitarian assistance, which Canada has already provided and plans to provide in the future to Ukraine.
