PM Shmyhal briefs German Vice-Chancellor on Kakhovka HPP blast

The head of the government reported this on his Telegram channel, Ukrinform saw.

"He talked about the situation in the south of Ukraine amid the ecocide that Russia committed by blowing up the Kakhovka HPP. We managed to evacuate over 3,700 people from the flooded zone. I thank Germany for the immediate support provided within the framework of the EU civil protection facility," Shmyhal’s posting reads.

The parties also discussed Ukraine's needs in terms of armaments. Shmyhal expressed gratitude to Germany for the ongoing defense assistance.

As noted, a separate topic was the strengthening of sanctions and restrictions against Russia's nuclear industry.

"Urgent measures are also needed to stop Russian missile terror. I passed on all the information and proposals to our partners," the report reads.

Officials also touched on preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference set to be held in London.

"One of the priorities is quick recovery. We need to help people affected by Russian aggression as soon as possible. We are counting on Germany's assistance in this regard," Prime Minister Shmyhal emphasized.

As reported earlier, on the night of June 6, the Russian army blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam. In Kherson region, the evacuation of the population from the areas at risk of flooding is underway. Law enforcers have initiated an investigation under the "ecocide" article of the Criminal Code.

Ukrhydroenergo, the operator of Ukrainian HPPs, says that the facility in Kakhovka has been completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
