First oral assessment of Ukraine as EU candidate by European Commission important for next steps - Stefanishyna

The European Commission's oral assessment of Ukraine's progress in political reforms will be an important step in structuring the unfinished steps.

Olga Stefanishyna, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, emphasized this during a meeting with Pierre-Alexandre Anglade, the chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, in Kyiv, Ukrinform reported.

“Discussed Ukraine's path towards EU membership. In this regard, underlined that European Commission’s oral update of Ukraine's progress in political reforms will be an important stage for structuring pending steps,” Stefanishyna said.

She also thanked France for its support of Ukraine.

As reported, the European Commission will provide its first oral assessment of Ukraine as a candidate country for membership in the European Union on June 22 during an informal meeting of the European Council on General Affairs in Stockholm.

According to the agenda of the meeting, Moldova and Georgia will also receive an oral assessment.
