President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Nikolai Denkov have signed the Declaration on the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.

The signing took place at a joint press conference in Sofia, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between the Ministries of Energy of Ukraine and the Republic of Bulgaria. The heads of departments signed the document.

The Memorandum is aimed at creating a framework for deepening cooperation in the energy sector of Ukraine and Bulgaria based on the principle of mutual benefit and taking into account the common interests and goals of both countries. The parties pledged to ensure affordable energy, support industrial and regional development, security and well-being of their peoples, expand cooperation and a common commitment to environmental protection and climate change mitigation, and reduce carbon emissions.

The declaration between Ukraine and Bulgaria, signed on Thursday, July 6, became the 22nd such document in support of the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukrainians.

Ihor Zhovkva, the deputy head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, posted this on Facebook.

"On the eve of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, we are not wasting a single day! Today, Bulgaria, our important partner in the Black Sea region, became the 22nd country with which we formalized support for Ukraine's membership in the Alliance. According to the results of the bilateral meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Nikolai Denkov in the city of Sofia, the Joint Declaration on the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine was signed," he wrote

Zhovkva explained that the document clearly testifies that Bulgaria supports Ukraine's acquisition of NATO membership "as soon as conditions allow."

According to him, Bulgarian partners also recognize that Ukraine's membership in NATO is the only way to ensure a sufficient level of security both for Ukraine and for the entire Euro-Atlantic family.

"The Bulgarian side welcomes Ukraine's significant achievements in advancing the path of Euro-Atlantic integration, in particular, in achieving interoperability with NATO, confirms its intention to increase joint efforts to support Ukraine's integration into the Alliance and the implementation of NATO standards, and also fully supports the Ukraine-NATO Council," Zhovkva wrote.

As reported by Ukrinform, on July 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia.
