Stefanchuk discusses with speakers Ukraine’s future membership in EU and NATO

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed with the speakers of the parliaments of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Germany the future of Ukraine in the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance.

Stefanchuk posted on Facebook that the conversation took place as part of a meeting of speakers with newly elected President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, Ukrinform reports.

The Ukrainian speaker conveyed the words of congratulation from President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to the newly elected President of Latvia.

As Stefanchuk noted, the first thing Rinkēvičs said was the assurance of Latvia's comprehensive support for Ukraine until its victory.

Speaker of the Lithuanian parliament Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, for her part, stressed that all countries are now united in helping Ukraine and protecting the eastern flank of Europe.

President of the Bundestag Bärbel Bas said about the support of parliament speakers for Ukraine's path to NATO. At the same time, Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Elżbieta Witek said that the Alliance would become stronger with Ukraine.

The Verkhovna Rada chairman also thanked the speaker of the Estonian parliament, Lauri Hussar, for his words that Ukraine should receive a clear roadmap to NATO at the summit in Vilnius.

"Undoubtedly, Ukraine's membership in the Alliance is our strategic goal. Therefore, I thank the parliaments for supporting our membership in NATO," he said.

Stefanchuk also thanked the parliaments for their willingness to help Ukraine integrate into the European Union.

As reported by Ukrinform, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk arrived in Latvia to reach an international consensus on Ukraine’s accession to NATO on the eve of the Alliance’s Summit in Vilnius.

During the visit, Stefanchuk met with speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Edvards Smiltēns​​.
