Italian delegation visits places affected by Russia’s overnight shelling in Odesa
The relevant statement was made by Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We met with the delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Community Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic, headed by Ms. Lia Quartapelle Procopio, accompanied by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine, Mr. Pier Francesco Zazo,” Kiper wrote.
In his words, the international partners were shown the consequences of Russia’s terrorist attack, i.e. the destroyed architectural monuments, residential buildings, and cathedral.
Kiper expressed gratitude to the Italian side for their support and willingness to assist with the restoration of the architectural monuments affected by Russian attacks.
A reminder that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced today that the Italian Republic is ready to take part in the reconstruction of the Odesa-based Transfiguration Cathedral and other cultural heritage monuments of Ukraine.
On the night of July 23, 2023, Russian troops launched a massive attack on the city of Odesa and the Odesa region, having fired 19 missiles of different types.
Odesa’s UNESCO-protected historic center came under enemy fire. Twenty-five architectural monuments were reported damaged, including the famous Transfiguration Cathedral.
Following the enemy attack, one civilian was killed and 22 injured, including four children.
