The ambassadors of the Group of Seven nations welcomed the initiative of Ukraine’s legislators to reinstate mandatory electronic declaration of assets by government officials.

This was reported on Twitter by the Japanese chairmanship of the G7 Group of Ambassadors in Kyiv, reports Ukrinform.

"G7 Ambassadors welcome the initiative of MPs to restore submission of asset declarations and ensure maximum transparency (with only limited, proportionate, and clearly defined exceptions related to martial law). This is a vital anti-corruption measure for Ukraine and an important step on way to the EU," the diplomats noted.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada will consider at first reading at its next meeting the draft law on the restoration of electronic declaration of assets.

At the outset of the full-scale war, the parliament suspended the process of mandatory declaration of assets by officials, allowing them to submit data on their wealth once martial law is lifted. At the same time, the National Agency on Prevention of Corruption allowed fort the voluntary filing of asset reports.

Currently, draft law No. 8071, which restores the process of electronic declaration of assets, is under consideration in parliament. The Ministry of Justice has developed its version of the bill on the restoration of electronic declaration of assets for public officials. The government project was criticized by anti-corruption organizations and civil society.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk called on lawmakers to support the relevant draft law.
