At Jeddah meeting, Global South sides with peace, democracy - French Secretary of State
That’s according to Boone’s interview with LCI, Ukrinform reports.
"I think it's very positive that in Saudi Arabia we saw a wide range of countries, including the BRICS - Brazil, China, South Africa – about which we were told that the Global South was undecided on whom to side with. But they are clearly on the side of peace, democracy, and border protection. So this is the first extremely positive moment (in the negotiations - ed.) - the number of participants and the countries that took part," said the state secretary.
In her opinion, it is quite encouraging to see that all these countries are working together because they are all concerned about the catastrophic implications of Russia's war against Ukraine for food security and "a challenge to the principles of the UN Charter, that is, the principles of territorial integrity with clearly defined borders."
The French state secretary for European affairs emphasized that all countries take the 10-point peace plan proposed by President Zelensky as a basis and will continue to work on it, "which is a very positive sign."
She added that the main goal of these meetings is "to develop a peace plan that Ukraine will be able to present when it decides to do so, which will be supported by most countries around the world."
As reported, on August 5-6, a second meeting was held in Jeddah at the level of diplomatic national security advisors and political directors regarding the key principles of peace based on the Peace Formula put forward by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky .
According to the Deputy Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Ihor Zhovkva, the participating countries discussed taking on responsibilities for co-organization or co-leadership in certain points of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.
