The European Union has condemned Russia's recent missile attack on the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk.

EU foreign and security policy spokesperson Peter Stano said this on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.

"Attacks in Pokrovsk show again how Russia targets residential buildings, even stepping up the heinous nature of Putin's war with a repeated attack when rescuers arrived to the site," Stano said.

According to him, this cynical pattern underscores the criminal nature of Russian aggression.

"There will be no impunity," Stano added.

Late on August 7, the Russian army fired two Iskander missiles at the town of Pokrovsk in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, targeting first a residential high-rise building and then rescuers and law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene.

Seven people were killed in the attack. Eighty-eight others, including at least two children and 31 police officers, were injured.
