Guterres: UN committed to territorial integrity of Ukraine
UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated this in his video address at the third International Summit of the Crimea Platform, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Crucially, the territory of a state shall not be the object of acquisition by another state, resulting from the treat or use of force,” he stated.
Guterres also stressed that the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol are part of Ukraine.
“The United Nations continues to be guided by relevant General Assembly resolutions, in particular Resolution 68/262 on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. In line with these resolutions, the United Nations is committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, extending to its territorial waters,” he explained.
He reminded that in line with the General Assembly’s decision, he continues to issue reports on the situation of human rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, while the Office of the High Commissioner for the Human Rights will continue to closely monitor the human rights situation in these territories.
As reported, the third International Summit of the Crimea Platform is taking place in Kyiv today, August 23. It is dedicated to Ukraine's vision for the future of temporarily occupied Crimea and security issues in the Black Sea region.
