Poland appoints new ambassador to Ukraine
The order on the appointment was handed over to Jarosław Guzy by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Polish Foreign Ministry.
"The Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau presented orders for appointment to the ambassadors: Jarosław Guzy will become Poland’s Ambassador to Ukraine," the statement reads.
In addition, Rau presented orders for the appointment of ambassadors to Vietnam, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Angola.
Jarosław Guzy is a sociologist by education, who during communist times was engaged in opposition activity, for which he was interned. In the early 1990s, he was an adviser to the Minister of Defense before turning to entrepreneurship. His spouse is an acclaimed journalist, CEO of Belsat TV Agnieszka Romaszewska-Gusy.
RMF24 reported about plans for Guzy’s deployment to Ukraine back in March. In a comment to Ukrinform, Guzy neither confirmed nor denied the report.
Jarosław Guzy will replace Bartosz Cichocki, who took up the post in February 2019.
It should be recalled that Chicocki was the only ambassador of an EU member state who has remained in the host country since February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion.
