Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has proved that the rule of law must be backed by military force. Otherwise, it will be neglected.

"Russia has distorted and is abusing the provisions of the UN Charter to justify its war of aggression against a sovereign state. This war is a clear reminder that the rule of law must be backed by military force. Otherwise, the law may be neglected," Danylo Kubai, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna, said during the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation meeting on October 25, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized that the only possible way to stop the aggressor was "to defeat it on the battlefield and force it to return to the path of international law." "Any other actions will not be able to restore a just and stable peace. Despite all the difficulties and challenges, the people of Ukraine, with their unwavering fighting spirit and determination, are set to defend their country," he emphasized.

During the meeting, Ukraine’s representative informed the delegations of the OSCE participating States about the situation on the battlefield which remains "extremely tense". Over the past week, more than 570 combat engagements have been recorded along the front line, Russian troops continue their efforts to seize Donbas, assaulting the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and launching regular air and artillery strikes on the civilian population. Only last day, Russian troops carried out 80 ground attacks and delivered six missile, 51 air and 66 MLRS strikes.

Despite the significant numerical advantage of Russian troops, "Ukrainian troops repelled all attacks, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy," the diplomat emphasized.

"On October 19 alone, Russian forces suffered staggering losses of 1,380 killed and wounded, the highest daily losses since the start of the full-scale invasion. It appears that the Kremlin is willing to pay such a price for its imperial ambitions and failed attempts to rewrite history and redraw the map of the world that it once pledged to respect," Kubai said.
