Next few months “critical” for Ukraine - Kirby
The statement came from the National Security Council stratcom coordinator, John Kirby, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.
"The next couple of months are going to be critical for Ukraine," said the White House official.
He emphasized that the Russians continue to attack Ukraine, launching barrages of drones and missiles. Therefore, the Ukrainian command is already forced to make difficult decisions on which weapons to expend and what ammunition to fire, which is “a horrible place to put the Ukrainian military in”.
At the same time, Russia continues to receive military aid from Iran and North Korea. In addition, the Russians have set up domestic production of drones and other weapons systems.
In this context, Kirby noted that the U.S. administration wants Ukraine to “win this war”. He recalled how President Biden clearly stated that Ukraine should become a prosperous and sovereign nation within internationally recognized borders.
"And we want to be able to continue to give Ukraine the support that it needs so it can achieve those outcomes," the U.S. administration official emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, negotiations have been dragging on in Congress on approving President Biden's request for supplemental national security funding, which includes over $60 billion in aid to Ukraine.
