Pompeo says U.S. will support Ukraine even if Trump becomes president

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is convinced that if Donald Trump is elected president of the United States, Washington will continue to provide financial and military support to Ukraine.

He said this in Tokyo, Ukrinform reports citing Kyodo.

"Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday that the United States is likely to continue financial and military support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian invasion if former Republican President Donald Trump returns to the White House," the report said.

In particular, Pompeo said that he had "never seen" Washington "move away" from its allies and partners during Trump's presidency from 2017 to 2021.

According to Pompeo, members of the Republican Party have "many different political views," but they have always understood the role of the United States in the world and its responsibilities.
