Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico should come to Kyiv if he believes there is “no war” in the Ukrainian capital to see the situation with his own eyes.

That’s according to MEP Manfred Weber, President of the European People’s Party, who spoke at a briefing in Kyiv.

“He should immediately come to Kyiv,” Weber said, commenting on the statement by Slovakia’s PM, which he called “simply disrespectful to the Ukrainian people”.

Sharing his personal experience of staying in the capital of a country at war, Weber recalled speaking with Ukrainians who would send their children to school, attaching badges to their clothes with their name, address, and other contact information “in case something would happen”.

“People are concerned. That is what I take away from here,” Weber stressed.

As reported earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico claimed life in the Ukrainian capital was "absolutely normal", adding that there was no war in the city.

“You seriously think there is war in Kyiv? You are joking, please, I hope you're not being serious. Go there and you'll find out there is normal life in the city, absolutely normal life,” Fico said.

The statement came a day before his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Shmyhal, and shortly after a number of Russian missiles hit Kyiv.
