Polish President Andrzej Duda is convening a meeting of the National Security Council on 10 June in connection with the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, as well as the scandal over the detention of soldiers who fired warning shots in the direction of a group of illegal migrants.

He told journalists at a briefing in France, Ukrinform reports citing Wnp.pl.

"In connection with what has been happening recently and in recent months, I decided to convene the National Security Council. I don't want to do it now, during the election campaign, because there are a lot of emotions and the situation is really very hot. But on Monday, the elections will be over, and I would like the National Security Council to be convened, most likely at 4pm," Duda said.

As reported, aggressive actions by illegal migrants have recently intensified on the border of Poland and Belarus, resulting in several Polish soldiers and border guards being injured.

On Thursday, a scandal erupted in Poland over the detention of two soldiers who fired warning shots in the direction of a large group of illegal migrants.

Every day, several hundred people from the Middle East and North Africa try to illegally enter Poland from Belarus.

Donald Tusk has stated that there is a Russian trace in the migration pressure on the Polish-Belarusian border: more than 90% of people crossing the border illegally have a Russian visa.
