Japan condemns in the strongest possible terms the export from North Korea and the purchase by Russia of North Korean ballistic missiles, as well as their use against Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform's own correspondent in New York, this was stated at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday by Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the UN Mitsuko Shino.

The transfer of these weapons is a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions, she reminded.

In addition, the supply of weapons from North Korea to Russia "supports Russia's aggressive war and increases the suffering of the Ukrainian people," she added.

"We continue to closely monitor what North Korea receives in return," the Japanese diplomat said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, despite numerous UN Security Council resolutions, Russia receives weapons from North Korea.

The UN Panel of Experts of the Committee on Sanctions against North Korea, which monitored compliance with the sanctions regime against the country and whose continuation in the UN Security Council was vetoed by Russia, ceased its work on 30 April after the end of its mandate.

As reported by Ukrinform, the UN Security Council met on Friday, 7 June, to discuss the humanitarian situation in Ukraine in connection with the intensification of Russian shelling of the Kharkiv region.
