Fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen to be held in Kyiv on Sept 12
Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska said this in Kyiv on Tuesday at a press conference dedicated to the summit, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
According to her, the theme of this year's Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen is "Children's Safety." Spouses of world leaders and leading Ukrainian and international experts will discuss the threats and challenges that children face, in particular, at home, at school and on the internet. However, the first panel will be dedicated to children in armed conflicts.
"The topic of the first panel, which will start our summit, will be the topic of children's safety in military conflicts. This is primarily about Ukraine, but, unfortunately, military conflicts continue in other countries, too. So there is the experience of unprotected children, their deportation and death. Children's rights are violated in every military conflict. For example, now it is Israel and Palestine, conflicts in Africa. We want our partners to share their problems and at this panel we want to get answers, work out concrete solutions and policies that can then be implemented," Zelenska said.
She noted that this is a "painful topic for Ukraine, because Russia kills and maims children and has already kidnapped 19,000 young Ukrainians."
"But although the war is ongoing and remains the biggest pain for Ukrainians, our country is not only focused on itself, but is also looking for new solutions to overcome global threats and challenges. After all, children's safety is multidimensional," she said.
Another topic of the summit, according to Zelenska, will be the safety of children in the family.
The summit will also present the results of a large-scale sociological study "Key threats to children," which was conducted specifically for this event.
The Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen is an annual international event initiated by Olena Zelenska in 2021. It is a global platform that has united first ladies and gentlemen to overcome global challenges.
During the first summit, a platform for solving humanitarian problems was launched. The second event helped collect more than $6 million for 92 ambulances. A medical partnership was established on the sidelines of the third summit held last year. At that time, Ukrainian and foreign clinics concluded 25 memoranda on medical cooperation, and now there are already 44 of them.
