Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Kononenko, emphasized the need to limit the opportunities enjoyed by Russia’s economy.

The official spoke at the third International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network, Ukrinform reports, referring to the NSDC press service.

Kononenko said the existing sanctions policy against Russia, aimed at limiting its economic and political potential over its aggressive actions against Ukraine, needs an upgrade.

The deputy NSDC secretary underlined the two key aspects that must be taken into account for such a policy: focusing efforts on making it difficult for Russia to produce missiles, bombs, and UAVs, as well as limiting general capabilities of Russia’s economy.

"First of all, we must focus our efforts on reducing Russia's capabilities in the production and use of missiles, aerial bombs and UAVs targeting Ukrainian territory. Secondly, it’s limiting the opportunities for the Russian economy in general. Therefore, in this regard, we must work in a coordinated manner, continue to provide verified information, convincing our allies of the need for certain steps," stressed Kononenko.

As noted, the official noted the importance of participation in the forum by representatives of Ukraine’s state authorities, international think tanks, independent experts, non-governmental organizations, etc., which in synergy will form recommendations for the government of Ukraine and partner nations to boost pressure on Russia in order to hinder the aggressor's ability to pursue its war effort.
