Zelensky: We must prepare action plan for second Peace Summit in few months
President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a joint press conference with President of the European Council Charles Michel in Brussels before a meeting of the European Council, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Now we need to develop a detailed plan of detailed steps to address all the crises that Putin's war has brought to our land. We have to draw up this plan within months, we don't have much time. We have a lot of wounded, killed both military and civilians. So we do not want this war to last for years. Therefore, we have to prepare this plan and put it on the negotiating table at the second Peace Summit," Zelensky said.
He also stressed that it is important for Ukraine to keep the peace process open.
"If there are any negotiations taking place in the shadows, it is not about us. We want to do it openly. This is very important for us," the President stressed.
Zelensky recalled that 9 countries had already joined the open communiqué of the first Peace Summit after its completion.
"These are great steps. And I want to discuss with the leaders our next steps in the context of preparing the second Peace Summit. I think it is important not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe and the world," the President said.
As Ukrinform reported, the first Peace Summit was held on 15-16 June in the Swiss resort of Burgenstock. It was attended by more than 100 countries and international organisations. The summit discussed nuclear security, food security and the humanitarian dimension - the exchange of prisoners and the return of abducted Ukrainian children.
A communiqué was signed following the Summit. The document remains open for accession. The results of the Peace Summit will be presented by representatives of the Russian Federation.
