Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk and President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis have discussed issues of nuclear and food security in Kyiv.

Stefanchuk announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"The UN and its General Assembly are an important platform where the international community must continue to demonstrate to Russia that its aggression will have consequences. During the meeting, we paid attention to the implementation of the Peace Formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. I informed [Francis] that the Ukrainian parliament is responsible for and involved in the implementation of clause 5 of the Peace Formula – 'Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and the world order'," Stefanchuk said.

Both parties also discussed nuclear safety and security, in view of the seizure and militarization of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

"I emphasized that the UN response to these threats is important. We discussed the development and preparation of a resolution of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly on the nuclear safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine. More than 40 countries prepared a draft of the respective document. I called for [Francis'] personal assistance in the adoption of the resolution," Stefanchuk said.

Special attention was paid to food security. According to Stefanchuk, despite the security situation, Ukraine remains the leading exporter of agricultural products and the guarantor of global food security.

They also discussed the importance of the functioning of the "Grain from Ukraine" initiative, which provides food aid to countries suffering from hunger.

The parties raised the topic of continuing UN humanitarian support, especially considering Russia's deliberate destruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
