Biden after NATO summit: I will not walk away from Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden has confirmed his intention to continue the U.S. policy of global leadership in supporting Ukraine and strengthening NATO, stressing that this is a matter of U.S. national security.

He said this at a final press conference after the NATO summit in Washington on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"I will not walk away from Ukraine. I will keep NATO strong. That's exactly what we did and exactly what we will continue to do," Biden said.

He added that the future of American policy is up to the American people who must make their choice in November.

However, Biden warned that this is much more than a political question.

"It's a national security issue," Biden said, adding that it is not about his political campaign, but "it's about the world we live in for decades to come."

In this context, he recalled how his predecessor, Donald Trump, has made it clear that he has no commitment to NATO under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. In addition, Biden recalled that Trump had called Russian dictator Putin a "genius" the day after he invaded Ukraine.
