France to deliver on commitments to Ukraine - Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has assured that his country will continue to fulfill its international commitments to support Ukraine, despite the current political uncertainty following snap parliamentary elections.

The president spoke at a press conference in Washington following the NATO summit, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I was able to reaffirm to all my counterparts and allies that France will retain a consistent approach to its international commitments, be it in Europe, within the Alliance, or in support of Ukraine, because the political forces that make up the majority in the Assembly (parliament - ed.), support this line," Macron noted.

He also ruled out the existence of a majority opposing aid to Ukraine.

"The forces that challenged us were by no means the ones that secured a majority," the president emphasized, referring to the far right, which failed to prevail in the parliamentary election.

Macron insists that critical decisions have been made in Washington to secure long-term support for Ukraine and advance its accession to NATO. He also recalled that the bilateral security agreement signed with Ukraine in February 2023 contains clear wording regarding France's support for Ukraine's membership in NATO.

In addition, according to the French leader, France constantly adapts the defense aid it provides to Ukraine at the national level. This is also the case within NATO, he added.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the adviser to the French president, Emmanuel Bonne, said Ukraine is allowed to use French weapons to strike any military targets inside Russia posing a threat to Ukraine, at the same time ruling out a strike on the Kremlin.
